Get fit before hitting the slopes

Got your new skiing gear and wear? Great! Wait!, when was last time you were really moving? Far, far away? Better move your body and warm up even a bit before ski trip. Otherwise, after the first day you may have problems in getting to the restaurant for a dinner!

If you want to stay injury free, you have to prepare your body before the trip. Getting ready for the slopes is all about: cardiovascular fitness, muscular fitness and flexibility. It's also important to be generally healthy, so if you have any doubts, visit your doctor. If it's hard for you to train on your own, check your nearest fitness centre. During the winter season they are offering special winter sports classes. You can also check Zumba class, which will rise your heart rate, make you more flexible and supply with necessary energy and good mood. Check also yoga classes for better flexibility and balance.
You can also try at home. Web is full of videos and tips with simple exercises for skiers. A great resource is Putney Chiropractic' s website: http://www.putneychiropractic.co.uk/sport/winter-sports/ and youtube channel:

Forget about the lift and take the stairs!  Walk to the shops and to/back from work, instead of going by car. Remember that your lower body will take the most of the work during riding down the slopes. Focus mostly on these muscle groups. They will remind you that they exist after the first day skiing.
When on the slopes, warm up before putting the skis on and stay safe! Wear helmet, avoid drinking (too much) alcohol and skiing off piste if you are not advanced enough.Good luck and have fun! :)
