The Nike Tight of the Moment is an exercise in exploration. Through experimentation with unique patterns, colors and inspirations, the franchise has elevated the intersection of athletic performance and artistic design. Nike partnered with Yuko Kanatani, marking Nike's first collaboration with an independent artist for the Tight of the Moment project.

The collaboration yields a collection of three tights that debuted in January 2014. The first of these was the Nike Tight of the Moment-Magical Kaleidoscope. Its bright and bold pattern is a natural extension of the colorful work Yuko creates. However, the project’s design process pushed the Tokyo-based artist well outside her comfort zone.
“At the beginning of the project, needing to match my drawings to a moving body was quite a hurdle,” Yuko says. “But it was also very inspiring and interesting to have outside direction and try something new.”

Yuko was asked to tailor her illustrations to a body map provided by the Nike Sport Research Lab. A body map uses athlete-informed data to show the location of an individual’s muscles and heating and cooling zones. Using this as her compass, Yuko created three-dimensional drawings to match these key areas of the body.

W ramach kolekcji stworzono trzy limitowane serie legginsów, topów sportowych i butów. Pierwsza seria nazywała się the Nike Tight of the Moment-Magical Kaleidoscope. Artystka przyznała, że dużym wyzwaniem było połączenie jej rysunków z poruszającym się ciałem. Yuko została poproszona, by jej ilustracje były dopasowane do tzw. mapy ciała (body map) stworzonej przez Nike Sport Research Lab. Mapa ciała stworzona we współpracy ze sportowcami, wskazuje miejsca poszczególnych mięśni oraz stref przegrzewania się lub chłodzenia organizmu.

A Collaboration continued in February with The Nike Tight of the Moment - Midnight Craftwork. For this design, Yuko reflected on her midnight world. This world represents the time of the day in which she can be alone with her art, free from distraction.

Embroidery is one of the artistic mediums that can dominate Yuko’s attention well after the sun has set. When creating the pattern for the NTM-Midnight Craftwork, the artist envisioned girls such as herself working on their embroidery into the night. This inspiration comes to life in the tight through Yuko’s own decorative needlework. She sewed beads, spangles, candy wrappers and ribbons onto pieces of fabric. To form the tight’s pattern, Kanatani combined photographs of the resulting embroidery with hand drawings done in acrylic paint.

Kolejna odsłona współpracy Nike z Yuko to Midnight Craftwork zainspirowana wyszywankami po zachodzie słońca. Tworząc nowe projekty Yuko wykorzystała swoje doświadczenie w robótkach ręcznych! Przyszywała koraliki, świecidełka, papierki po cukierkach i skrawki innych materiałów. Nowa odsłona kolekcji The Nike Tight of the Moment powstała z fotografii wyszywanek i ręcznie malowanych wzorów. Powstało oryginalne połączenie świata sportu, mody i sztuki.

The NTM-Midnight Craftwork comes in two Nike Pro styles, the Nike Pro Tight and Nike Pro Sports Bra. The print will also be featured on the Nike Studio Wrap Pack and the Nike Roshe Run.
The NTM-Midnight Craftwork dostępne są jako część Nike Pro – legginsy Nike Pro Tight oraz stanik sportowy Nike Pro Sports Bra. Wzory Yuko Kanatani pojawią się również na butach Nike Studio Wrap Pack i Nike Roshe Run.
